This is Big Bear's grand kickoff event, and we're moving to Camp Campbell this year. This is an event that your son will remember forever! We'll have activites, crafts, and lots of banging on tables! And don't forget the highlight event--the Saturday evening campfire. (Get those skits ready!)
Camp Campbell is south of Castle Rock State Park on Highway Nine.
When you arrive, you can proceed directly to the cabins. Cabins
will be assigned (based on Circle size), and you'll find cabin
assignments posted when you arrive.
Camp Campbell is a YMCA facility. It will be staffed with YMCA
members to assist with the archery, zip line, & climbing wall.
Rebecca is our camp director and she will help with any issues. If
you or your son(s) have special needs, or need assistance with
anything, please email me (vasek1@aol.com) or call my cell phone
(408) 315–1319.
Try to carpool, as the camp has limited parking.
We are responsible for our own First Aid. Each Circle is encouraged to bring along a First Aid kit (to place in your cabin).
If any child will be at the campout for any period of time without
their dad or legal guardian, the parent or legal guardian must
submit a medical release form for emergency treatment.
Each parent has to sign a Camp Campbell Liability Release Form so that your child can participate on the Zip Line and Climbing Wall. Please bring this form to Camp with you, and give it to your Circle Navigator.
Arrival: You may arrive anytime after 4PM on Friday. No meals are offered on Friday . Bring food, or stop along the way (La Honda) for dinner.
When you arrive, you can park close to the cabins for unloading purposes. There are a couple of carts to assist with schlepping your gear to your cabin. Please move your car to the parking area (near the climbing wall) after you've unloaded.
You'll find name tags and itineraries in your cabin.
Departure: We have to be out by Noon on Sunday.
There are brooms and trash containers around the camp. All cabins must be swept out and the grounds picked up. Be sure that all signs are removed and all push pins removed from the buildings. We need to leave the facilities as we found them, and report any malfunctions as they occur.
The Ga-ga pit will be open all day.
It's a lot more fun when everyone carves their pumpkins at the same time, so I'm encouraging everyone to show up at the Pumpkin Carving area at 1:45. The activity areas will remain open, so your son can return to any of the activities when he finishes his pumpkin.
Special notes on pumpkin carving:
Yellow and blue recycling bins for aluminum and glass are in the main areas of the camp.
The YMCA staff is trained and familiar with the camp's emergency procedures. In the case of a major disaster (earthquake, fire):
First Aid is the responsibility of the Circles. You are encouraged to bring a First Aid kit.
